Jan Christoph studied bioinformatics and completed his Bachelor and Master of Science in Bioinformatics at Saarland University. He then completed a second Master’s degree in Medical Process Management at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, where he worked as a research assistant at the Chair of Medical Informatics. In 2019, he was awarded a doctorate in the field of medical informatics. He would like to make the routinely collected patient data in hospitals usable for research and sees this as one of his focal points.  „A major concern of mine is to improve the therapy of cancer patients by means of bioinformatics methods, for example, by comparing tumour cells with healthy neighbouring cells and making it possible to derive an individual therapy from the differences and the conclusions drawn from them. Jan Christoph took up the junior professorship „Biomedical Data Science“ at the University Medical Centre Halle (Saale) on May 2021.
